Title: Home modifications to support community dwelling older adults with staying independent and preventing falls in both rural and urban settings
Speaker Bio: Ric Alves graduated in 1999 from the U of A with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. Ric currently supports staff in the Edmonton Zone Home Living program as a Co-Clinical Lead with Rochelle. Ric has spent time as a sole charge OT for two nursing homes in Red Deer, as a front line practitioner in home living (homecare) and as a therapist lead at the Glenrose Rehab Hospital Cardiac Outpatient program in addition to his current role over the span of 20 years. Ric has a passion when talking about Aging in Place, Fall Prevention and Person-Centered Care and looks forward to sharing his knowledge as part of the Finding Balance Webinar series.

Title: Medication Decisions that Reduce Risk for Falls
Speaker Bio: Dr. Cheryl Sadowski is a Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta. She has a clinical practice at the Misericorida Community Hospital Geriatric Outpatient Clinic in Edmonton, an interprofessional clinic focused on geriatric assessment. She has precepted pharmacy students and residents for over 20 years, and led geriatrics curriculum in classroom teaching at the Faculty. She has a research interest in geriatric syndromes and care and has studied awareness of fall related risk factors and safety of medications and mobility. She has worked with the Injury Prevention Centre for many years.

Rochelle Walker is a U of A Graduate with a BScOT. Rochelle currently holds a position on the Edmonton Zone Home Living Practice Development Team as a Clinical Lead. Her experience in home care has spanned over the last 14 years and she is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to the Finding Balance webinar series. Rochelle has provided countless assessments and interventions within homes in the Edmonton area. Reviewing home safety, aging in place and discussing potential benefits of home modification/renovations is a comfortable conversation Rochelle has with clients, their families and her frontline colleagues within home care.

Title: What you should know about your vision and eye health.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Tom Wilk obtained his Doctor of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry in 1994 and returned to Canada to begin practicing in Alberta. He has a personal philosophy of “patient first” care and has a special interest in dry eye management, glaucoma and myopia management. He is a recipient of the Corning Medical Optics award for Excellence in Low Vision. Dr. Wilk is active in his community and through his charitable work has helped the less fortunate in Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Malawi Africa. He is currently working with Canadian Vision Care, Rotary and Operation Eyesight on a mega-project designed to improve eye care infrastructure in Northern Malawi.
