Why are we doing this?
Physical activity is one of the best ways to prevent falls. One of our main objectives for Falls Prevention Month this November is to get older adults moving. What better way to encourage being active than by making it fun and setting a goal?
Can we track steps as a group?
Yes! When you register on the Trek app, you will have the option to enrol as an individual or as a team. If you’re registering as a team, choose one person as your group leader who will be responsible for entering the completed steps on behalf of the group.
What if I do more than just walking?
Great! We encourage everyone to participate in as many physical activities as you are willing and able to participate in. Since we are tracking steps, you can use this conversion chart to find the number of steps equivalent to a wide range of activities.
For example, 1 minute of recreational pickleball is equivalent to 150 steps. So a 30-minute match would count as 4,500 steps!
